Enhancing Durability and Functionality: Sheet Metal Cover for the Dynamic Range X1 Plus

At Dynamic Range, we are always listening to our customers’ needs and continually working on improving our products. Recently, a unique request from a customer led us to develop an innovative solution to enhance the resilience of our Dynamic Range X1 and X1 Plus against the impact of birdshot.

The Challenge: Training for Upland Game Birds

One of our customers, who specializes in training people to hunt upland game birds, reached out with a specific use case. The primary difference between hunting upland game birds and waterfowl lies in their speed patterns. While waterfowl typically slow down before landing, upland game birds start slow and then speed up after being flushed out of the brush. Traditional skeet shooting, where clay pigeons launch quickly and then slow down, doesn’t accurately simulate this.

To address this, the customer uses a wiffle ball that transitions from slow to fast, mimicking the flight pattern of upland game birds. However, they wanted to incorporate the Dynamic Range X1 Plus into their training regimen. The problem? The construction of the X1 Plus isn’t resilient to the widespread impact of shotgun pellets, even from stray shots.

The Solution: A Durable Sheet Metal Cover

To meet this unique training need, we designed a robust sheet metal cover for the Dynamic Range X1 Plus. This cover not only protects the target carriage from damage but also ensures longevity and durability during intensive training sessions.

Design Features:

  • Material: Made from 2mm sheet metal aluminum, the cover is lightweight yet durable.

  • Coverage: The cover protects three sides of the Dynamic Range X1 Plus, safeguarding it from all angles.

  • Easy Installation: Instead of the standard battery cover, the sheet metal cover uses the same attachment points and handwheel screws for quick and secure installation. Simply remove the battery cover, slide on the sheet metal cover, and fasten it using the existing screws.

  • Versatility: This cover is not only ideal for upland game bird training but also beneficial for indoor training environments, such as kill houses using sim rounds. The cover shields the target carriage from stray shots, even when space constraints prevent hanging the target at a safe distance.

DIY Option Available

Understanding that some users prefer to create their own solutions, we’ve included a detailed drawing with specifications on how to make the sheet metal cover. This guide outlines the necessary cuts and fold lines, allowing you to take the design to a local sheet metal shop for fabrication.
